Twice the Fun: How to Bag Two Theme Park Days Out for the Price of One This Summer

If there’s one thing I know about summer with kids, it’s that a single big day out never quite feels like enough – by the time you’ve queued for the rides you actually wanted to go on, the holidays have moved on to the next thing. So when not one but two deals came along this summer that turn a single theme park visit into two days out, it felt worth breaking down properly rather than just scrolling past them.

Merlin Entertainments, who run Alton Towers, LEGOLAND Windsor, Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park, currently have two separate summer offers running – a day-ticket deal and a short-break deal. They work quite differently, so here’s what each one actually gives you.

Offer one: Twice the Fun (day tickets)

This one’s for families who just want a day ticket, not an overnight stay. Buy a day ticket to one of the four parks, and you unlock a completely free day out at a second park of your choice – including going back to the same one.

  • Buy a Twice the Fun day ticket for Alton Towers Resort, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort or Thorpe Park
  • Enjoy your first day out as normal
  • Then unlock a free second visit to any of the other three parks, or return to the same one
  • Prices start from £29.75 per person

Key dates: tickets must be booked between 25th June and 27th July 2026, your first visit needs to happen by 27th July 2026, and your free second visit can be used any time up to 25th September 2026.

Offer two: 2nd Day Free (short breaks)

This one’s for families booking an overnight stay rather than just a day ticket. Book a short break package – an overnight stay plus theme park entry – and everyone in your booking gets a second day in the theme park completely free, used on the two consecutive days of your stay.

  • Book a short break at Chessington World of Adventures, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort or Thorpe Park (and check directly with Alton Towers for their version of the offer)
  • Your package includes an overnight stay, breakfast, and two-day theme park entry
  • Your two theme park days must be used on consecutive days of your stay
  • Chessington short breaks start from £73 per person; Thorpe Park short breaks start from £70 per person; check LEGOLAND’s website directly for their current pricing

Key dates: new bookings must be made between 24th June and 19th July 2026. Stays need to fall between 24th June and 22nd October 2026 at Chessington and LEGOLAND Windsor, or 24th June and 1st October 2026 at Thorpe Park.

So which one’s right for your family?

If you fancy exploring two different parks and don’t need to stay overnight, Twice the Fun is the more flexible option – you can spread your two visits across the whole summer. If you’d rather turn it into more of a proper mini-break with a hotel stay involved, and don’t mind sticking to the same park for both days, the 2nd Day Free short break packages give you more time in one place with the overnight stay built in.

Either way, a few things are worth knowing before you book: both visits (or both days of your short break) usually need to be under the same names and attended by the same guests, tickets are non-transferable, and once part of the deal has been used the rest typically becomes non-refundable. It’s worth reading the specific terms for whichever offer and park you’re booking before you commit.

None of the four parks are exactly on our doorstep here in Northamptonshire, but they’re all within a reasonably manageable drive or short break distance, which makes offers like these worth planning around rather than catching on a whim. If big rides and rollercoaster thrills aren’t really your family’s thing, it might be worth weighing this up against a couple of closer, smaller-scale days out instead – but for families who love a proper theme park adventure, getting extra time for free is hard to argue with.
