Northants Families on BBC Radio Northampton

Half Term Ideas I Shared on BBC Radio Northampton (Monday 16 February 2026)

This morning (Monday 16 February 2026) I joined BBC Radio Northampton to share a few fun, family-friendly ideas for February half term.

If you’re looking for something to do this week, here are the three activities I recommended on air — with dates, ages and a couple of helpful tips.

You can listen here or scroll down for the text version.

1) Teddy Bear Storytime at Chester House Estate

Best for: ages 1–7
This is a lovely, gentle half term activity for little ones. Children can enjoy a craft session (making their own bookmark) followed by group storytime with Chester Bear himself.

Why it’s a good pick: it’s structured, calm, and perfect if you want something that feels “special” without being overwhelming.

2) Stowe House: Chinese New Year Trail & Family Crafts

Best for: all ages
Just over the border, but absolutely sounds worth the drive. There’s a free Chinese New Year trail through the house plus family crafts and drop-in workshops.

Top tip (especially with toddlers): when you pre-book tickets, ask about parking close to the house — ideal if you’ve got little legs or a buggy and don’t want a long walk.

3) Stowe House: Stars at Stowe Stargazing

Best for: older children / confident night-time adventurers
This one sounds genuinely amazing. There will be telescopes provided (or you can bring your own), and UK Astronomy experts on hand to help you understand what you’re looking at.

Why I love it: it’s memorable — the kind of night kids talk about for ages.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar at The Castle Theatre, Wellingborough

Best for: younger children / early primary
You can’t go wrong with The Very Hungry Caterpillar — it’s a total classic, and it’s such a nice “first theatre” experience for many children.
