Gruffalo Granny Storytelling
If your little ones can’t get enough of the deep dark wood, half term just got a lot more exciting. Forestry England is bringing the newest Gruffalo story to life right here in Northamptonshire, with a free storytelling event at Fineshade Wood built entirely around Gruffalo Granny.
Families are invited to step into the deep dark wood this October half term as Forestry England partners with Macmillan Children’s Books to celebrate the launch of Gruffalo Granny, the brand-new story from the creators of The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
Visitors can enjoy a free Welcome to Storytime with Gruffalo Granny events at Fineshade Wood on 29th October. The event will give children and their families the chance to bring the newest Gruffalo adventure to life through interactive storytelling and take part in a range of themed activities based on the brand new story.
With October half term falling at one of the most colourful times of year, families can also make the most of their forest visit by exploring the changing autumn colours, spotting fallen leaves and enjoying the sights and sounds of the season. From golden yellows and fiery oranges to rich reds and browns, the nation’s forests offer plenty for children to discover and enjoy as they explore the deep dark wood.
Throughout the day, families can enjoy Gruffalo Granny storytelling sessions and activity booklets designed to help children continue the adventure. Copies of Gruffalo Granny by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler will also be available to purchase at participating events.
Forestry England is delighted to be partnering with Macmillan Children’s Books to celebrate the brand new story that comes 22 years after the publication of The Gruffalo’s Child. Forestry England sites have a long history with the Gruffalo and other Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler characters, thanks to a long standing and successful partnership with Magic Light.

Fineshade Wood is already well loved by local families for its Gruffalo sculptures and woodland trails, so this looks set to be a lovely way to spend part of half term.
