Free Family Sports Roadshows Are Touring West Northants This Summer
If you’re already trying to figure out how you’re going to fill the next six weeks without spending a fortune, I’ve got a good one for you. West Northamptonshire Council is bringing a series of free Sports Roadshow events to four different towns this summer, and they’re open to the whole family — no booking, no cost, just turn up and get stuck in.
Children, young people and families across the area are invited to get active as the roadshow travels between Northampton, Daventry, Brackley and Towcester, offering a packed programme of fitness, games and family-friendly activities throughout the school holidays.
Where and when
Each event runs free from 1pm to 5pm:
- Northampton – Thursday 23 July, The Racecourse
- Daventry – Friday 24 July, New Street Park
- Brackley – Wednesday 19 August, Town Centre Park
- Towcester – Friday 21 August, Recreation Ground
No advance booking is required, so you can simply turn up on the day. It’s worth checking the Summer of Sport Roadshows page beforehand for parking and travel details for your local event.
What’s actually on
Visitors can enjoy activities delivered by professional sports organisations including Northampton Saints, Northampton Town Football Club and Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, alongside a range of local sports clubs and community partners. There’ll be chances to try rugby, cycling and other sports, while younger children can get stuck into creative craft sessions. There are also inflatables, games and interactive activities suitable for all ages.
Each event has its own unique programme, so if you fancy making a summer of it, you’ll get something a bit different at every location.
Cllr Kamala Guliyeva, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Culture and Leisure at West Northamptonshire Council, said the council knows the cost of activities can be a challenge for many households, and wanted to give children and families the chance to get active, try new sports and have fun together at no cost.
If you’re near Northampton, it’s worth pairing this with a wander around the Racecourse afterwards, or if the kids still have energy to burn, take a look at the free ParkPlay sessions at Delapré Abbey which run every Saturday morning nearby.
If you fancy turning the day into a proper scavenger-hunt style outing for the younger ones, my free nature scavenger hunt is a nice way to keep them entertained around the park setting too.
