Delapré Abbey’s Brand New Children’s Tour Is the Perfect School Holidays Day Out

Delapré Abbey has just launched a brand-new interactive children’s tour, and it sounds like exactly the kind of hands-on history activity that keeps little ones engaged (and off their screens!) for an hour or so.

What’s the new tour all about?

This is a brand-new interactive children’s tour running during the school holidays, designed to bring Delapré Abbey’s story to life for young explorers. Kids will uncover the Abbey’s history through games, puzzles and codes to crack along the way, journeying from the medieval nuns who once lived there, through to the Battle of Northampton, and on to the influential Tate family who later called the Abbey home. It’s aimed at curious minds and adventurous families, and sounds like a fun way to get children genuinely interested in 900 years of local history rather than just walking past it.

Dates, times and price

• When: Every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 12:15pm
• Running: 19th July to 27th September 2026
• Price: Included with your house entry ticket (general admission is £5 for adults, free for under-18s)
• Spaces: Limited to 10 per tour

Because it’s included with general admission rather than needing a separate ticket, it’s a lovely low-cost addition to a day out you might already be planning. Just bear in mind that with only 10 spaces per tour, it’s worth arriving in good time to secure a spot, especially in the middle of the summer holidays when the Abbey tends to be busy.

Parents and carers must accompany their children on the tour, so this isn’t a drop-and-go activity — it’s one to enjoy together. Definitely worth factoring in when you’re planning your visit.
