Big Badger Craft Club at Stanwick Lakes: What to Know

If your little one loves anything woodland, wild or a bit muddy, this one’s for them. Stanwick Lakes is running a badger-themed Craft Club on Wednesday 12th August, with two sessions to choose from and a visit from the Northamptonshire Badger Group thrown in too.

What’s Happening at Big Badger Craft Club

The theme this time is badgers and their woodland friends, and children will get to choose from a few different craft activities on the day, including:

• A woodland diorama featuring your favourite woodland animals, badgers included
• A sun print artwork using leaves collected from the woodland
• Your very own woodland mammal identification guide to make and take home
• Origami badgers, foxes, pine martens or squirrels

It’s suitable for children aged 3 and up, and places need to be booked in advance as spaces are limited for each session.

Session Times and Cost

There are two sessions running on the day, so pick whichever suits your family better:

• Morning session: 10.30am – 12.15pm
• Afternoon session: 1.30pm – 3.15pm

Tickets are £10 per child. Parking isn’t included in the ticket price and the usual car park tariffs apply — as a charity, parking is one of the main ways Stanwick Lakes raises funds to look after the site.

Meet the Northamptonshire Badger Group

Alongside the crafting, the Northamptonshire Badger Group will be at the visitor centre on the day. It’s a lovely chance for children to meet people who work directly with badger welfare in the county and find out more about why badgers matter and how families can help protect them.

The event also ties in with the Nene Valley Mammal Youth Group, which was set up to inspire young people to learn about mammals and get involved in conservation. It’s part of the wider network run by the Mammal Society, so if your child comes away from the day wanting to get more involved in nature and conservation, this could be a great next step.
