Alton Towers Scarefest: A Family Guide to Halloween

Halloween is on its way, and Alton Towers is going all in. Scarefest is back on selected dates from 26 September to 1 November, with rides in the dark, scare mazes and family Halloween fun at the Staffordshire theme park. It is a bit of a drive from Northamptonshire, so here is what you need to know before you plan your day out.
When is Scarefest at Alton Towers?
Scarefest does not run every day, so check the date you want before you book. It is on for:
- 26 and 27 September
- 2 to 4 October
- 9 to 11 October
- 16 October to 1 November
The run from 16 October to 1 November takes in October half term, which is handy if you are looking for something to fill the week. Alton Towers is listed as open from 10am until 9pm on event days, but do check the opening time for your date before you go.
Spooky Days: family-friendly Halloween fun
During the day, Scarefest has a gentler side for families. Think trick-or-treat walkthroughs, shows and the CBeebies Land Monster Ball, which is the one to look at if you have younger children.
Frightful Nights: scare mazes and rides in the dark
Once it gets dark, the scares step up. The scare mazes and scare zones come out, with costumed scare actors aimed at older, braver guests, and this year’s line-up includes a new scare maze called Final Exhibit. Some of the big rides run in the dark too, including The Smiler, Nemesis Reborn and Wicker Man.
There are age recommendations for the scare mazes and some rides, so check these before you go, especially if you have older kids who are keen to try them.

Tickets are sold on the Alton Towers website. The scare mazes and some of the family attractions can be added on to a standard ticket, so read what is included before you book.
