Pumpkin Picking at Saxby’s Farm, Farndish
It’s that time of year again when jumpers come out, the leaves turn gold, and pumpkin patches start popping up across the county. Saxby’s Farm in Farndish is opening its pumpkin patch again this October, and if last year’s glowing reviews are anything to go by, it’s one of the best PYO days out around.
When Is It On?
This one’s important, so please note it’s not open every day in October. The pumpkin patch is only open across three weekends:
- Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October
- Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October
- Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October
You’ll need to book a two-hour arrival window, but once you’re in, you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the day for as long as you like.
What to Expect
Tickets are £5 and that covers parking for one car plus entry for everyone travelling with you — you then simply pay for whichever pumpkins you pick along the way. Grab a wheelbarrow, put your wellies on, and let the kids loose to find the perfect one to take home.
Saxby’s Cider bar and shop will be open on site, with hot food, teas, coffees and soft drinks available, plus some gentle amusements to keep little ones entertained. If you fancy exploring a bit further, there’s a trailer ride around the pumpkins and orchards (weather permitting) for a small extra charge, and there’s no need to book this one in advance.
The alpacas from Watermeadow Park will also be joining on site, with an Alpaca Walk or Alpaca Tea Party available for an extra charge. These need to be booked directly with Watermeadow Park rather than through Saxby’s, so head to their website to secure your slot. There’s also the option to feed the alpacas for a small donation.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the bar and food area, though they’ll need to stay out of the pumpkin patch itself, so do remember your poo bags.
Good to Know
You’ll find the pumpkin patch at Grange Farm, Irchester Road, Farndish, Wellingborough, NN29 7HJ. It’s worth noting the field entrance is on Irchester Road on the Wollaston side of Farndish, and there’s no entry via the cider yard — the what3words reference for the pumpkin patch entrance is ///arise.kingpin.sleeps if you want to pop that straight into your maps app.
Tickets are booked online in advance and tend to go on sale until close to each date, but with three popular weekends and limited slots, I wouldn’t leave it too late to book.
