The Tiger Who Came to Tea is Coming to Royal & Derngate — and It Looks Absolutely Magical

If your little ones are fans of Judith Kerr’s classic picture book, I have some very exciting news — because The Tiger Who Came to Tea is coming to Royal & Derngate in Northampton, and from everything I’ve seen, this is one show you really don’t want to miss. It runs from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 June 2026, so if you’re looking for something magical to do with the kids this week, get those tickets booked now.

Direct from the West End, the Olivier Award nominated smash hit show, The Tiger Who Came to Tea returns to Royal & Derngate!

The doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Who could it possibly be? What they certainly don’t expect to see at the door is a big, stripy tiger! Join the tea-guzzling tiger in this delightful family show; packed with oodles of magic, sing-a-long songs and clumsy chaos! A stunning stage adaptation of the classic tale of teatime mayhem — expect to be surprised!

A musical play adapted and directed by David Wood, based on the book by Judith Kerr.

Please note: there is a Relaxed Performance on Wednesday 3 June at 4.30pm, which is wonderful news for families who would benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment.

If you’re making a day of it in Northampton town centre, it’s a great excuse to grab lunch or a treat beforehand and really make an occasion of it — little ones always love the build-up as much as the show itself. Theatre trips are such a special experience for young children, especially when it’s a story they already know and love.
